This year I decided to start out with teaching my students about digital fabrication from the start. In random groups, students had seven two-hour class period to brainstorm, prototype, market, and design a tangle-free headphone holder. Their final design was then laser cut from 1/4″ plywood and personalized with each student’s name. It was fast paced but my students had a great time.
The unit’s objectives were
- Learn to work as a team
- Practice brainstorming and prototyping
- Create a 2D and 3D model using a CAD program than can be laser cut
- Create and conduct a real market demand survey using Google Forms
