A few months before Google Classroom was announced, three teachers I worked with and myself brainstormed this idea for a Google LMS. It was one of three ideas we were going to pitch at the 2014 TC SWEDU. I ultimately pitched my Question Site idea which took first place and became InsertLearning
What we would like in a google LMS
- Content delivered through a google site
- Google+ and gmail for student messaging and discussion
- Google docs for student writing and assignments
- Need solution for student submission and grading
Idea
- Assignments have a “grade” button added to the menu
- Students make a copy of the document as usual and is automatically added to a subject folder with set sharing permissions
- They click on the grade menu and choose “submit”
- This messages the teacher and adds it to a google gradebook which indicates it needs to be graded
- Teacher adds comments to document and clicks the grade menu and enters a grade
- This submits the score to campus gradebook and notifies the student and makes a copy which is archived.
- If corrections need to be made the status of the assignment is changed to “needs corrections”
Other features
- Student dashboard that shows the number of lessons completed by week
- Grades on completed assignments and any that need corrections
- Progress bar for classes
- Quick links to each class or assignment they are currently working on
Chrome Extensions:
- Send from gmail
- Momentum
- Screen recording
- Organization Options:
- Diigo
- Springpad
- Save image to google drive
Submitting/Grading Assignments
- GRADE – assignment title
- students add GRADE to the beginning of their assignment name and email the teacher to notify that it is complete
- either email collaborators
- or quick email chrome extension
- students add GRADE to the beginning of their assignment name and email the teacher to notify that it is complete
- CORRECTIONS – assignment title
- student needs to make corrections to the assignment
- INCOMPLETE – assignment title
- assignment must be completed before grading

Credit Tracking:
